At Drama Spectrum children are helped to express their own natural creativity and further their individual talent with the encouragement, guidance and support given by our incredible staff. Whether children are highly talented and ambitious or simply enjoy the fun and excitement of it all, either way, we've got it covered.
The company currently has 4 regular classes:Dream Team, Sticks and Stones, Teenactors and our Musical Theatre exam & event class. The Dream Team, Sticks and Stones and Musical Theatre class meet on a Saturday (See Classes page for more info on timings), and our Teenactors meet on a Tuesday evening. All classes take place at St. Peters Parish Hall in Bushey Heath. Children can start with us from age 4. During the sessions they work with professional actors, singers, local theatre producers/directors and choreographers.
Our Musical Theatre class is a smaller group session with the focus on preparing students for LCM Music Theatre examinations in a supportive group setting with also the opportunity to perform at local events and fundraisers (see Events page for more info).
Once children reach secondary school age they can move on to our Teenactors group, meeting on a Tuesday evening between 5.30 and 7pm. The Teen-actors primary focus is musical theatre training, also learning acting skills through drama exercises and improvisation and tackling text from modern writers all the way back to the Bard. A keen eye will be kept on the national curriculum, which will be backed up by continual performances and workshop productions.
For our students who want to go further, and continue performing professionally, we offer Drama School Audition Prep sessions, with both Acting and Singing Coaching available (16+). We also run Singing School lessons 1-to-1 for students who may want to supplement their classes with singing lessons, available to a much larger age range (11-18).
Our students cover all aspects of theatre, giving them a chance to try their hand not only as performers, but as set builders/designers, sound and light ‘technicians’, ‘make-up artists’ and much more. The aim is to encourage young performers to work on all types of theatrical works ranging from small-scale open air productions, full-stage performances to internal workshops. This encourages as far as possible an expanding knowledge of all types of theatre. Students will gain experience of working with full-time performers, actors and directors.
As part of a large production organisation, all students get many opportunities to take part in shows and performances.
Adults and young adults who have missed out on a chance to attend groups such as Sticks and Stones or Teenactors or maybe you are a previous student who wants to carry on your training with us? Well, if you have a dream of being on stage, then the opportunity is still there as Drama Spectrum offers a number of adult acting workshops.
